Your privacy is extremely important to us and we would like to outline exactly how thisisGO.ie handles data and information.
You can learn more about the origins of this platform here: About us – thisisGO
The short version is that a team from University College Dublin,
in conjunction with the Irish Cancer Society, has led the gathering of
substantial content and worked with an Irish software company, Full
Circuit, to put this information together in a way that should be
helpful for those impacted by a gynaecological cancer. We started with
information on cervical cancer and hope to add content for more cancers
soon. The design and lay-out of the platform was created following
extensive consultation with patient public involvement groups and
healthcare professionals.
The type of information and content available ranges from very
detailed academic papers on treatments to more practical advice, such as
how to prepare for an overnight in hospital.
The bullet points:
- You can choose to create a ‘profile’ but do not have to do so to access articles.
- If you do create a profile, we request the minimum amount of data required.
- That minimum amount of data is stored securely on Microsoft Azure, one of the world’s leading cloud storage providers.
- We do not share your information with any third party other than our software support team who use the information purely for maintaining the platform itself.
- We will never request personal medical information.
- thisisGO is not a medical or clinical tool and if you have any concerns about your own health you should contact your health professional.
- We will not contact you via email or any other communication channel
unless it is to re-set your password or another platform related
matter.
What is MyProfile?
You can choose to create a ‘profile’ on thisisGO.ie. The purpose of the profile is to:
- provide you with relevant articles and content quickly
- allow you to bookmark articles you may want to re-visit and keep track of what you have read or viewed before
What information do we ask for in creating a profile? And why?
We ask for the following:
First name – so we can say ‘Hello Jane’ on your profile and your registration confirmation email, nothing more.
Your email – this is your ‘log in’. As you set a password (which is encrypted, meaning we can never see it), your email allows you to re-set your password should you forget it for some reason. Upon creating a profile you should receive an email confirmation to the email you entered. If you want to use a ‘temporary’ email, such as from mailinator.com or a similar service, that is up to you.
Status – we ask you to select a ‘status’ from a short-list:
- Concerned but not diagnosed
- Recently diagnose
- Surveillance: treatment complete
- Recurrence
- Partner
Your ‘status’ is a platform setting only. The status determines
what articles and topics are recommended to you upon creating a
profile.
We use the status setting to help you navigate the massive amount of content available. There are over 130 articles, videos, podcasts and documents on thisisGO.ie and that number will only grow.
You can see an example above. This is the standard landing page upon selecting a profile status ‘Concerned but not diagnosed’. As you can see the ‘box’ contents differs from a profile status ‘Recurrence’ below:
The recommended ‘Topics’ and ‘Quick Links’ are different.
Having a profile also means you can ‘Bookmark’ anything you read or view and find again at a later date.
There is a ‘search’ function so you can search key phrases or words.
Age – we ask you to enter a number for your age. It is up to you as
to what to enter here. Again, we ask so we can present more relevant
information as some content is more relevant to older users, some to
younger. We do not use the number entered for any other purpose.
